“The first principle of recovery is the empowerment of the survivor. She must be the author and the arbiter of her own recovery. Others may offer support, assistance, affection and care, but not cure.”

Trauma Sensitive Space aims to create a supportive community for those who have lived through and survived trauma, combining nature’s beauty with mindfulness practice’s to aid in the healing journey. Jana uses movement, mindfulness and spoken word, to nurture and support self-discovery and self-empowerment.

Trauma can be defined as experiencing a distressing event beyond one’s control, which can overwhelm one’s ability to process emotions. Complex trauma, refers to a repeated or ongoing trauma, experiencing situations such as violence, abuse, neglect, or torture. Every trauma experience is unique. Trauma Sensitive Space aims to connect people through the shared experience of trauma, through building reconnection, community, and offering mindfulness practices, and the possibility of human healing.

Research done by Bessel Van Der Kolk and David Emerson (TCTSY) documents studies proving that ancient Eastern practices like yoga, are effective in treating symptoms of PTSD, to those that have been previously treatment resistant. Trauma Sensitive yoga by TCTSY uses choice making, present moment experience, invitational language, shared authentic experience and non-coercion as its core elements.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), developed by Gary Craig, and Thought Field Therapy (TFT) by psychologist Roger Callaghan, work with the body’s meridian lines - energy pathways identified in traditional Chinese Medicine. Tapping on these points can release stagnant energy, similar to processes used in acupuncture, massage and yin yoga. Emotional Freedom Technique uses tapping and positive self talk to rewire the brain.

For more information on these practices feel free to get in contact, join the mailing list, or book a session with Jana.

“I really enjoyed Jana’s class. She sets a lovely space with her calm and gentle manner and her choice in music is a nice touch that enhances the flow of the class. Her cues and transitions are simple and easy to follow, and she sets a good pace and flow that I felt was a great balance between work out as well as the relaxing benefits Yoga provides. Highly recommended.”
